I have always had a love and passion for animals growing up, and have grown up with cats, guinea pigs, hamsters, a one eyed tortoise and of course dogs. Dogs have always been a huge part of my life — they bring me so much joy, love, and laughter every single day. My love for dogs continued when I left home and started my own family, convincing my husband (who has never had a dog) to buy a puppy! We now wouldn’t be without our dogs (even though the house can be a bit chaotic at times!!). I just love the loyalty and unconditional love they give and are always there to put a smile on your face.
We have had two litters of puppies from Maisie, which has been hugely successful. My children absolutely love to help raise the puppies and it’s such a lovely environment for them to grow up in. It’s also been so rewarding to find wonderful loving homes for them all and owners whom I still keep in contact with and get regular updates on how all the pups are doing!
So that's a bit about my family and I. Here is a bit about why i've decided to get into dog boarding . . . . Previously I worked as a Sustainability Standards Manager at Yeo Valley, and although I enjoyed my job, after having my third child, I decided that I would not return to work, stay at home and focus on bringing up my family and supporting my husband with his demanding job. So my circumstances have now changed meaning I spend more time at home.
The other factor that made me think of dog boarding as a business is that fact I struggled to find somewhere suitable for my dog whilst we went on holiday that didn’t cost an arm and a leg. I didn’t like the idea of a kennel environment nor somewhere that charged extra for walks and cuddles! For me, the welfare of the dog is priority and a service should offer everything you would give your own dog at home. There seems to be quite a requirement for a home from home boarding as I’ve had a lot of people ask if I offer this.
After a change to my career path, I feel I am now in a position to offer what I struggled to find – a home style dog care service. It feels like the natural route for me. We can offer everything a dog would require – the time (being a stay at home mum) the space and large enclosed garden, living close to lovely country walks and the family environment to offer the unconditional love and attention to make the dog feel at home and to give their owners the reassurance whilst they are away.

This is the start of my dog boarding journey so things will be forever evolving as I understand what does and doesn’t work well. We have completed some renovation works to our home, so we have extra space for the dogs to have down time. I am in the process of obtaining a dog license and insurance to become an accredited dog boarding business.
I’ve already started my dog boarding journey looking after some friend’s dogs and I have future dates booked in. This has given me a taster for things to come! It has been very successful and our dogs have loved the company. I’m very excited about this new business venture, and can’t wait to start boarding.
